In religion particular movements (such as crossing oneself, kneeling, touching ears with hands) contain an implication, a message, which might be addressed to some objective, to one’s spiritual development. Centuries ago faithful people must have known the meanings of these movements, but they are lost now. Today, they are somehow automated and totally meaningless, aerobics that doesn’t really exclude the outcome to reach the goal.

Our work is the attempt to understand the movements of three religions of the world: Islam, Christianity and Judaism. We’ll unite them and publish as a CD, and make performance. Artists as sportsman will present the aerobics video and performance. In reality, the movements present not the perfection of the body (as it seems at the first sight), but a deep understanding of these movements.

Project The Weight lifter parodies a rush of underdeveloped countries towards the Western Unions like EU,NATO...
During one month`s physical trainings 5 artists make attempt to achieve non realistic results and become professional weight lifters. This action symbolizes the competition of EU non-member countries to reach stated standards of western civilization in a short period of time.
The project simultaneously is the simulation of the corporate "ethics" of developed society that is shown by the rules of the sports games. Artists underline that the basis of the corporate ethics is the athletic principle of competition.
The project blurs the boundaries between art, sports and politics demonstrating the combined cultural "bullion", where there is no differentiated space any more.

Bina 3 (apartment 3)

was the third project from apartment series. The action was going in two room’s flat, one of the streets of old Tbilisi. There was a table with twelve plates (six at one side and six at another) in one of the room, one side of the table was occupied by six artists and you could see and join them. This action was the group`s presentation, by eating bullion artists offered public daily occurrence .

Apartment #5

Apartment 5 was held in Ijevan (Armenia). Besides the fact we were interested to engage the residents in the project, we also wanted to do research about how they live in the environment, which long ago was quite rich and nowadays, due to new social circumstances, the city changed a lot. Ijevan apartment project became a research and we found out that most of the residents left their homes after the system changed; how many agreed to open their private space for strangers, even from the door eyes. Changing the direction of the door eyes shared only the entrance to the private space for the society, but even these insignificant scenes were enough to see the world, people create for themselves and show to other people close to them. Interior which was seen in voyeuristic way, came in contrast with the outer world, more or less furnished, repaired, clean apartments seemed absolutely independent from ruined entrance and almost destroyed city.

The project, somehow, gives the opportunity to see the city from the inside. Information about the citizens, their interests, lifestyle are united in one work. In addition to this, we see where lies the border between the perception of private and public.

Shardeni-19

The last project –Shardeni-19 was the play between borders of two spaces. It was a cube surrounded by tunnel. Artist were locked in the box, they could not see and could not hear anything around them, they only felt. People who decided to enter in the dark tunnel could see artist from door holes, which makes artists space more bigger then it was actually. People were so attracting with thinking about place behind holes and discomfort ability space, which become lower and lower by the way that they forgot thinking about their own space.

The work was about connection between the old factory building and the people`s life who

worked there. For many of them “life”changed exactly after closing the factory when Soviet Union collapsed. Mioni factory is like a dream.

This exhibition continue the team of sculptures mothers in soviet time . This performance which went three day was a Georgian mothers birthday. For the project artists choose five persons with different professions and gave them information about Georgian mother and her sisters in different countries in soviet period.
the party was going near her sculpture in the open place .The table was made in Georgian tradition with the toastmaster “Tamada” . he introduces with toast Georgian mother (like alive ),her sisters...
people could join this party and hear the stores about her .

In modern society two models face each other - of reality and of imagination, the first as the original (existing reality) and the second as its copy (imaginary model).
The high level of technological development has created such tools of depicting realty, which make it look much more real than the reality itself (the copies of which they represent).
Modern technology is so developed that the image depicted on the photo is more real, effective, convincing and tasty than that, seen by eyes. The photo technique brings us to the conception of reality closer than our own eyes.
Pornography as the naturalistic depiction of sex is closer to sex than the sex itself. The real sex is deprived of the diversity which is produced in our imagination by simulacrum.
Real events don’t create such emotional strength in us as the same event produced on a tape.
In modern world, when this imaginary reality has won over reality itself, we also depart to the dimension of hyper-reality or the world of simulacra triumph.

“I LOVE MOMMEY”

dedicated to mothers killed in war

“I am emancipated, short and thin. I don’t look like mother at all. Mother was born in 1969, in Tbilisi. She died later. Now I have a new mother. She is 16. She is younger then me although she looks good. It is strange but I love my second mother more. She is a “woman”. Few days ago, when I saw the Ukrainian, Armenian and Russian mothers, she seemed more womanish to me. I know mother loves me, but I still don’t want to be like her. She is a “woman”.

“Qartlis Deda”-Tbilisi. Georgia. It was constructed in 1958.
In 1992, the “old ”-“Qartlis Deda” was replaced with the “new” one.
”Mother home town calls us!”- Volgograd, Russia. It was put up in 1959.
“Mother omeland”- Ukrane, Kiev. It was put up in 1981.
“The Mother Of Armenia”- Armenia, Erevan. It was put up in 1962.
*In Georgian etymology of woman is constructed from the words mother+man.

i - mommy

Artists compared the mother sculptures which were constructed in soviet time in the different countries. They made graphic paintings and wrote some impressions about sculptures on the "Caucasian" bread. There was also an installation . the photo of the soviet bell(from school) which is look like woman`s breast, wooden table with the jar of a milk on it .

The artist ate the bread and drank the milk from jar.

A Toy

The “era” of The Soviet Union fell into past, though it still remains in our memories and will live with us - the so-called “former Soviet citizens», for many years to come. It was the Time with both its dark and bright sides, people lived and loved there, were happy, and went away with the same feelings and wishes as we have now and with the culture, which is not only the reflection of its “era” (sometimes with inhuman and absurd ideas) but which also has artistic values.

The Soviet Children.
Playing war games.
Looking for cartoons every evening.
“Red Ties” (‘red ties” used to wear children from the age of 10 to 15 at school, they were called “pioneers”).
Stories about Pavlik Morozov (a hero from Russian kids’ stories).
Lollipop – “Mamalo” (in Georgian).
School, uniforms, white bows.
Lenin, Moscow, Mausoleum.
Summers and movies, from India, in the open-air cinemas.
“Khrjusha”, “Stepashka”, “Philia”. “Karkusha”. (toys – TV heroes for the Soviet Kids)
“Artek”, so desirable, so longing for thousands of Soviet youths. (most famous summer resort for children).
Ice cream - for 20 kopeek, and big, round “Boublik” (bagel) – for 5 kopeek. (kopeika – soviet money, coin)
May with “Parades”. (celebrations of the end of the World War II)
Pepsi.
“One Rouble” - coin. (it’s a soviet money)
“Bufet”. (soviet lunchrooms for children at schools)
Toys. Large-scale production.
A well-known question - expression from a famous Georgian movie “Toys are laughing” –
“Why was not a child well-developed before revolution? – Because He/She had no Toys.”
It’s not a truth.
Our ancestors had both hand made, original toys and well-known “toys from Germany” and were quite well-developed.
Some time passed, large number of various factories were built and began a large-scale production of toys in a new country, the Soviet Union.
92 years later most of those factories were closed.

And as time passes almost everyone forgets that once there was a big toy factory in Georgia. But it seems like no one worries about the thing that toy production is stopped, as thousands of so-called “Barbies” from Turkey have had occupied

Georgian toy market, “commissioned shops” and kids’ hearts. Later Turkey was replaced by China products. And now kids’ most famous heroes are: Spiderman, Shrek and other well-known animated characters. But the most important thing that changed their lives is – The Computer of course.
Present days, Tbilisi, a lot of factories around, almost in ruins and deserted.
At first sight it seems like now no one needs the “cultural heritage” of that past regime. However toys are still produced / made in one of those factories, moreover they are made from the materials found in that factory. Toys are handmade, and original. Once thousands of people worked in that factory, where some special details and micro diagrams were being produced.
Today it is known as “Mukhiani Radio Factory”, and artists who have a workshop in that factory call themselves “Karkhaists” (Georgian word ‘Karkhana” means factory)
Nowadays the expression “Communism Epoch” mostly means something negative, but for me it’s my childhood period with the sweet memories.

Qarkhaizm-i

Present days, an artist can represent everything as an object of an art or anti -Art.
An act of an art is when it is considered so in a specific space , in a specific time.
An object could be anything: a writing, a communication or a physical thing, object from our life, reality, (deserted factory), important is, an artist to give an intellectual sense, understanding to it/them.
Once, you can get an invitation to an exhibition, and when you get there, find out yourself in a wood, real one, as an artist has made it an object of his artistic views.
An object of an art could not be always only visible.
Nowadays an art doesn't need a space of a museum or a gallery in a centre of a city.
It can be represented everywhere, it's an artist's desire.
Tbilisi,
one of the outline districts,
a factory,
found by chance, by a coincidence,
an object of an art,
three artists,
decision to exhibit it.
They made a gallery there, but it's a strange gallery, uncommon and (somehow) extraordinary.
A half ruined or almost ruined two storied building of a factory and a landscape around it.
They used the space fully.
Exhibition;
objects made from scrap metal,
some paintings,
and installations,
and musicians - artists made them objects of an art also - wrapped in a plastic, cube,
they are almost invisible, but music is heard,
and poets - they read their poems from a bull, constructed from scrap metal,
and trees - growing near ruined walls of a factory,
and even a dead dog in a well, decomposing already.
In short, everything can be used as an object of an art.
And, it's not an usual exhibition, like those in prestigous galleries, in Tbilisi.
As for its name - "Qarkhaizm-i" - artists have thought it and it's semantically in connection with the factory, as in Georgian a factory is "Qarkhana", although the meaning of "Qarkhaizm-i" is absurd.
Thus it can be thought as an example of an art after it is considered as an art,
when an act of an art will take place between the object and the audience,
and there will be a question - 1 July, 5:00 p.m.
